USB 3.0 Connectors – Conclusion

September 14, 2022
A A

USB 3.0 targets first the PC market and all consumer devices requiring high data rate and volumes of data transfer such external storage drives … but like the former USB protocol versions, time will also come for other applications whether they are industrial, medical…

At the moment USB 3.0 chips are still significantly more expensive than the 2.0 one, therefore it limits a mass USB 3.0 spread but we can guess that this time will come.

Nevertheless it’s important to consider that the connector choice for USB 3.0 application is crucial. The connector is the gate from which every signal enters or exits a system. A wrong choice can lead to a lower speed, damaged signal or other critical issues. Therefore it should not be forgotten that, to maintain backward compatibility and new expectation as halogen free… brought much more stress on connector side. Raw material used to make the connector should carefully be monitored in order to avoid bad influence on the complete application.

To come to the end, the connector is the gate to high speed, select it carefully!
